Brace for Impact: Cyclone Dana Looms Large Over India and Bangladesh
Authorities in India and Bangladesh brace for Cyclone Dana, which is set to hit the eastern and southern coasts with wind speeds up to 120 kph. Preparations include cancelling trains, evacuating people, and warning fishermen. Heavy rainfall and potential damage are anticipated in Odisha and neighboring regions.
Authorities in India and Bangladesh are on high alert as Cyclone Dana, currently over the Bay of Bengal, approaches the eastern and southern coasts. The storm is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm, with wind speeds reaching up to 120 kph.
In response, more than 200 trains have been cancelled in India's cyclone-prone state of Odisha, where officials are preparing to evacuate residents from vulnerable areas. The weather office has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, warning of potential damage to homes, infrastructure, and agriculture, along with a heightened risk of flooding and landslides.
Schools in Odisha are closed until Friday, and fishermen have been advised to refrain from venturing into the sea. In Bangladesh, measures are similarly in place to ensure safety. West Bengal has readied disaster relief teams with essential equipment in readiness for the cyclone's impact.
