The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning as Cyclone Dana is set to hit the Odisha coast between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra port early Friday. Authorities are on high alert with preparations underway to minimize damage.
According to Umashankar Das, a senior scientist at the IMD's regional meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, the cyclone is expected to bring wind speeds of up to 120 km/h, accompanied by a tidal surge of up to 2 meters. The anticipated severity has led to concerns over potential flooding in low-lying districts.
Evacuation efforts have been recommended, particularly for residents in Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and Balasore districts. The IMD urges caution and preparedness as Cyclone Dana approaches, highlighting the importance of safety measures to protect vulnerable communities.
