President Droupadi Murmu expressed concern over the declining quality and quantity of groundwater, emphasizing the essential role of collective responsibility in water conservation. She made these remarks during the National Water Awards on Tuesday.
Murmu warned about the severe issues of groundwater pollution and depletion, asserting that without strong conservation efforts, societal progress is at risk. She noted that while ancient civilizations thrived near water bodies, modern societies tend to neglect this vital resource.
The president commended the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Minister C R Patil for their dedication to water conservation. She also praised the winners of the National Water Awards, urging the widespread sharing of their best practices. The awards, initiated in 2018, honor efforts in nine categories to promote the government's vision of a water-sufficient India.
