The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings as a cyclonic system over the Andaman Sea is expected to develop into a significant storm. The system, which intensified into a low-pressure area, is likely to evolve into a cyclonic storm by October 23, impacting the Odisha-West Bengal coast.

IMD reports that the storm will develop into a depression by October 22 and escalate to a cyclonic storm by October 23, positioned over the east-central Bay of Bengal. The storm is projected to advance towards the northwest Bay of Bengal, nearing the Odisha coast, by the morning of October 24.

Due to the likely severity, the IMD has advised fishermen to avoid sea activities until October 26, issuing red and orange warnings for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in specific districts of Odisha. Authorities are on high alert, preparing evacuation measures and ensuring public safety.
