Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has taken proactive steps in anticipation of heavy rainfall forecasted by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai. Responding to this, he has ordered a temporary closure of educational institutions in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu while advising IT companies to facilitate remote working from October 15 to October 18.
The meteorological predictions highlight a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal which could intensify, prompting enhanced rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh. As a precautionary measure, Stalin has ordered the deployment of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local disaster units in susceptible areas.
Further actions include increased metro and MRTS services for public convenience, measures to stabilize essential goods prices, and preparation of relief centers. State officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, participated in a coordination meeting to solidify these plans ensuring readiness against potential floods.
