In a significant weather event, Typhoon Krathon made landfall on Thursday near Kaohsiung's Siaogang District in southern Taiwan, as reported by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). The typhoon, traveling at a slow pace of eight kilometers per hour towards the north-northeast, brought with it destructive forces.
CWA's data indicated that Krathon was equipped with maximum sustained winds reaching 126 kilometers per hour, accompanied by gusts peaking at 162 kph. The agency issued warnings for regions south of Taoyuan as well as Nantou, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu Islands, anticipating severe conditions.
The storm left a path of devastation, claiming at least two lives, with two individuals missing and 123 injured across Taiwan. Concurrently, around 51,000 households, primarily in Pingtung County and Kaohsiung, experienced power outages, according to the Taiwan Power Company.
