Typhoon Krathon made a ferocious entry into Taiwan's southern region, specifically near Kaohsiung's Siaogang District, at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, as per the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

Traversing at a sluggish eight kilometers per hour, Krathon brought with it heavy winds of up to 162 kph. The CWA's alerts extended to areas south of Taoyuan and also encompassed Nantou, Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung, as well as offshore Penghu Islands.

Caught in Krathon's path, Kaohsiung and Pingtung County braced for winds exceeding 14 on the Beaufort scale. Tragically, the storm claimed two lives, left two individuals missing, and injured 123. Power outages hit about 51,000 households, predominantly in Pingtung County and Kaohsiung.
