Chief Minister M K Stalin emphasized the importance of swift and proactive actions by the government during flood situations. He announced the launch of a new mobile app, 'TN-Alert,' aimed at providing real-time weather updates in Tamil, which could help residents plan necessary precautions.

Stalin chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat to discuss measures for handling the Northeast monsoon rains. He pointed out that extreme weather events, often linked to climate change, require improved preparedness. Last year's efficient handling of record rainfall in Chennai and other districts was highlighted as a model for this season.

The CM also noted the upgrades to the state emergency control centre, which now includes multidisciplinary experts and inter-departmental coordination. Real-time data from 1,400 automatic rain gauges and 100 weather stations facilitates enhanced flood management. Special measures are also being taken to alert fishermen about cyclones and heavy rains, aiming to prevent fatalities.
