Bihar state officials have issued an urgent flood alert across northern, southern, and central parts of the state following a substantial discharge of water from Birpur and Valmikinagar barrages on Sunday. The situation has triggered significant evacuation efforts and repair operations.

The embankment of the Bagmati river in Madhkaul village, Sitamarhi district, broke on Sunday but is being repaired. 'Due to this incident, villagers have been evacuated to safer places, and the repair work is ongoing. No casualty has been reported so far,' said Richie Pandey, District Magistrate of Sitamathi.

The heavy discharge from Birpur barrage has led to seepage issues in the Kosi Eastern embankment near Gopalpur, which the Water Resources Department (WRD) engineers have successfully addressed. The disclosed water levels are among the highest recorded in decades, posing risks to over 16.28 lakh people in 13 districts already impacted by recent heavy rains.
