A suspected leopard attack resulted in the death of a 65-year-old woman in Rajasthan's Udaipur district, officials confirmed on Sunday.

Gattu Bai was alone at her home in Gurjaron ka Guda village on Saturday when the attack occurred. Her husband returned home in the evening and raised the alarm after failing to find her. Villagers discovered pieces of her saree, some jewelry, and traces of blood, prompting an intensified search.

The woman's mutilated body was later found in a nearby forest.

A forest official stated that a post-mortem report would confirm whether the attack was by a leopard or another animal.

This incident marks the fifth animal attack in the area within 11 days, causing significant panic among residents. A panther was captured in the Gogunda forest area late on Saturday. Previous incidents involved fatal attacks on a 16-year-old girl, a 50-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, and a five-year-old girl, all occurring on separate dates in September.

To address the situation, forest authorities have placed five cages to capture the leopard, believed to be hiding in nearby hills. Prior to the latest capture, three other leopards had also been captured in Gogunda.
