India's Big Leap: Launch of Three Indigenous PARAM Rudra Supercomputers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three indigenously developed PARAM Rudra supercomputers and an Rs 850 crore High-Performance Computing system. Modi emphasized the importance of technology upgradation in empowering the poor and outlined India's roadmap towards a self-reliant science and technology sector. The new systems will enhance research in various fields and improve weather forecasting capabilities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted the importance of having a grand vision for a nation's high achievements, asserting that technological advancements should empower the underprivileged.
Speaking via video link after inaugurating three indigenously developed PARAM Rudra supercomputers under the National Supercomputing Mission, Modi emphasized that India is now paving new avenues in an infinite sky of possibilities.
Modi said the government is committed to ensuring that scientific research benefits the common man. Initiated in 2015, the National Supercomputing Mission has led to significant progress, including advancements in quantum computing technology, which are expected to boost IT, manufacturing, MSMEs, and startups. "Science for self-reliance is our mission," Modi stated.
The newly launched supercomputers, built for Rs 130 crore, are located in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata, aimed at facilitating pioneering scientific research. Further, Modi inaugurated an Rs 850 crore High-Performance Computing system designed for weather and climate research, marking it as a "very big achievement" in India's science and technology sector.
Modi emphasized that no sector today is independent of technology and computing capabilities. "In this revolution, our contribution should be not just in bits and bytes but in terabytes and petabytes," he said. The supercomputers and HPC systems signify India's advancement in computational capabilities, essential for meteorological applications.
