Man Dies in Elephant Attack as Wild Animal Incidents Surge in Nilgiris

A 60-year-old man tragically lost his life following an elephant attack at Pandalur Seppanthodu in Nilgiris district on Thursday. The incident has sparked a wave of protests among locals, highlighting the rising concern over frequent wild animal attacks in the area.
According to a senior forest official, the elephant, hiding behind dense foliage, charged at the man as he exited his house early in the morning, resulting in his immediate death.
In response, villagers staged an impromptu agitation for nearly five hours, pressing the authorities to address the recurring danger posed by wild animals.
Adding to the distress, a leopard strayed into Nattakal village in Lower Kotagiri and attacked a man named Mani within his residence.
As per an official account, the leopard had entered Mani's home while chasing a pet dog. Upon hearing his screams, villagers rushed to the scene and managed to chase the wild animal away.
Mani is currently being treated for injuries on his face and legs at the Kotagiri government hospital.
