Russia's Renewed Attack on Kharkiv: Tragedy Strikes Again
Russia bombed a high-rise apartment in Kharkiv, Ukraine, killing three and injuring 22. Officials report casualties and severe damage, with fears of more trapped. This attack, part of a broader assault on four districts, is the second on the same building since 2022 invasion's onset.
Russia bombed a high-rise apartment block in Kharkiv, Ukraine's northeastern city, on Tuesday, killing at least three people and injuring 22 more, with others feared trapped under rubble, local authorities reported.
'Russia is terrorizing the Kharkiv region with impunity... A direct strike on a residential building,' Ukraine's ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated on the Telegram messenger app. Images from the scene display a gaping hole in the building.
Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov mentioned on Telegram that the same building had been targeted at the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. 'It was almost repaired, windows were installed, it was insulated, and prepared for heating season. The enemy hit it a second time,' Terekhov explained.
Russia's afternoon attack hit at least four districts, including Kharkiv's most densely populated area, according to Terekhov. Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov added on Telegram that several other apartment blocks had also sustained damage.
Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, and its surrounding region are frequently targeted by Russian attacks. Moscow's forces deploy highly destructive guided bombs, which Ukrainian air defenses find difficult to intercept. While Russia denies targeting civilians intentionally, thousands have died in over two and a half years of war.
