The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) has taken a significant step towards reducing vehicular emissions by handing over 25 electric cycles to the state police on Tuesday.

This action forms part of the broader National Clean Air Programme, with plans to distribute 1,450 e-cycles to police units for patrolling sensitive areas, according to a statement from the WBPCB.

WBPCB representatives highlighted that e-cycles produce zero emissions, thus reducing both noise and air pollution. The cycles also feature lower maintenance costs and decreased fuel consumption, resulting in notable operational savings.

Additionally, these e-cycles promote physical activity and could be utilized for community outreach programs. A large-scale deployment of such cycles has the potential to substantially decrease particulate pollution in West Bengal, an official added.
