The Patna district administration has extended the closure of 76 government schools in rural areas until September 26 due to the dangerously high water levels of the Ganga river.
A circular from Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh confirmed that schools in eight blocks of Patna district will remain closed as a precautionary measure. The Ganga was observed flowing above the danger mark at multiple ghats, including Gandhi Ghat, Hathidah, and Digha Ghat, as reported in an official statement.
The state's Disaster Management Department highlighted that approximately 13.56 lakh people across 12 districts are experiencing flood-like conditions, with many residents evacuated from 376 affected village panchayats. Additional Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit held a virtual meeting to assess the situation and coordinate preparedness efforts.
