One person lost their life after an ammonia gas leak from an ice factory near Domoria bridge in Punjab's Jalandhar district on Saturday, officials confirmed.
Several residents reported experiencing suffocation following the dangerous leakage. The police have sealed off the affected area and redirected traffic to ensure public safety.
Emergency services, including fire tenders and ambulances, arrived promptly at the scene, rescuing six individuals from the factory. Tragically, one of them, who was unconscious at the time of rescue, succumbed to the toxic exposure. The others remain in stable condition.
The incident occurred around 2 pm, triggering complaints of a strong smell and breathing difficulties among residents. Jalandhar's deputy commissioner has initiated a magisterial investigation, instructing the sub-divisional magistrate to submit a detailed report within 15 days.
