Twelve individuals were injured following the collapse of a two-storey house in central Delhi's Bapa Nagar on Wednesday morning, according to officials. Efforts are intensifying to rescue additional occupants believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan confirmed that twelve people were rescued and taken to the hospital. However, fears persist that more individuals remain trapped. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a distress call at 9.11 am, prompting the dispatch of five fire tenders to the scene.
DCP Vardhan noted the building's age and its location in the narrow lanes of Bapa Nagar's residential area as challenges for the rescue operation. Heavy machinery cannot be used, but fire department teams, local police, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are actively working on-site. Chief Minister-designate Atishi has instructed district officials to assist residents and ensure immediate medical care for the injured while investigating the collapse's cause. She also encouraged residents to promptly report any structural concerns to prevent future incidents.
