In a tragic incident, a labourer was killed and another was injured when a heap of soil collapsed on them while they were working on a sewer line in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district. The accident occurred in the Dilip Nagar area on Sunday, according to officials.

Following the incident, colleagues of the victims, who were working under contract, staged a protest on Monday. Salakhedi police post in-charge Mukesh Yadav revealed that the labourers were trapped in a 10-feet-deep pit when the soil and debris caved in.

The trapped workers were eventually rescued and taken to a hospital, where Sunil Gauhar, 26, was declared dead. The company's employees protested on the civic body's campus, demanding adequate safety measures, Rs 1 crore in compensation, and a government job for the deceased's kin. Mayor Prahlad Patel later announced Rs 5 lakh in compensation and promised an outsourced job for the deceased's wife. Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Bhatt said action would be taken against the company responsible for the project.
