Earthquake Shakes Malibu and Los Angeles Region
A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Malibu and the Los Angeles region, followed by a 2.6 tremor. The U.S. Geological Survey reported no initial structural damage or injuries, but the Los Angeles Fire Department is inspecting infrastructure. Residents experienced significant shaking for up to 30 seconds.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 shook the southern California city of Malibu and other parts of the Los Angeles region, the U.S. Geological Survey said on Thursday.
The quake, occurring at a depth of approximately 11 kilometers (7.2 miles), was followed by a smaller tremor registering 2.6 magnitude. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported no immediate reports of structural damage or injuries. However, as a precaution, they have entered earthquake mode to survey infrastructure throughout the region for potential damage.
Local residents in Malibu reported feeling intense shaking for between 20 to 30 seconds. Additionally, those living further down the coast also felt noticeable shaking and rolling.
