The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Thursday that the southwest monsoon is expected to begin its withdrawal from India between September 19 and 25.

Usually, the southwest monsoon arrives in Kerala by June 1 and spreads across the country by July 8, retreating from northwest India around September 17 and entirely withdrawing by October 15.

According to the IMD, conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of northwest India during the second half of the week (September 19-25). Since June 1, the country has received 836.7 mm of rainfall, which is 8% higher than the normal 772.5 mm. East and northeast India experienced 16% below-normal rainfall while other regions, including northwest, central, and south India, recorded 4%, 19%, and 25% excess rainfall, respectively.
