India remains steadfast in its commitment to climate-friendly growth, even as fossil fuels continue to underpin economic development, said NITI Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam on Wednesday.
Speaking at an event, Subrahmanyam stressed that market forces alone are insufficient to tackle climate change, revealing that NITI Aayog is collaborating with states on a comprehensive roadmap for the green energy transition. This plan is expected to be published in November.
India, he stated, is on track with its Paris Agreement climate targets and aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070. As part of its national climate plan, India has pledged to reach 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030.
