Severe floods are expected to inundate northern Vietnam, including Hanoi, following typhoon Yagi. The storm has caused 82 deaths and left 64 missing. The industrial hubs of Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen are also facing flooding. Evacuations are underway as water levels rise in various regions.
Severe floods are imminent in Northern Vietnam, including Hanoi, as a result of Typhoon Yagi's aftermath, according to government officials. The typhoon, deemed the most powerful storm to hit Asia this year, has already caused significant casualties and damage.
The disaster management agency reported that 82 lives have been lost, and 64 people remain missing. Most victims were caught in landslides and flash floods. Additionally, 752 individuals sustained injuries. Industrial hubs like Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen, home to multinationals like Samsung and Foxconn, are heavily impacted by the flooding.
Typhoon Yagi's landfall on Vietnam's northeastern coast has severely affected industrial and residential areas, while contributing to rising river levels and widespread flooding. A 30-year-old bridge over the Red River in Phu Tho province collapsed, leaving eight missing. Authorities have restricted traffic on other bridges to mitigate risks. Evacuations are ongoing in flood-prone zones, with more than 4,600 soldiers deployed for assistance.
