Wave of Drone Attacks Hit Moscow, Resulting in Casualties and Flight Suspensions
Russian officials reported the downing of at least 15 drones around Moscow overnight, with incidents causing residential fires, one death, and multiple flight suspensions. Additionally, over 60 drones were shot down in the Bryansk and Lipetsk regions. The attacks coincide with increased Ukrainian drone activity targeting Russian infrastructure.
Russian officials announced on Tuesday the downing of at least 15 drones in an overnight wave of attacks around Moscow. The incidents led to residential buildings catching fire, claiming the life of a woman, and forcing the suspension of over 30 flights in the capital.
In addition, more than 60 drones were shot down over Russia's southwestern Bryansk region and the Lipetsk region to the south. Despite the high number of downed drones, no damage or casualties were reported in these areas. The rise in Ukrainian drone attacks comes as Kyiv's domestic drone industry grows rapidly, targeting Russian energy, military, and transport infrastructure.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the downing of the drones around Moscow via Telegram, with emergency crews deployed to various sites near Zhukovo airport and the Domodedovo district. Moscow's governor reported damage to high-rise buildings in the Ramenskoye district, leading to one death and three injuries. Authorities in neighboring regions also noted incidents involving drone wreckage, but without significant impact.
