Four workers lost their lives and one sustained injuries when a coal-filled hopper collapsed at an alumina refinery in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district on Sunday, as confirmed by police authorities.

The incident unfolded around 11 am at Maa Kudargarhi Alumina Refinery situated in Silsila village, falling under the jurisdiction of Raghunathpur police chowki, according to an official statement.

A towering steel hopper packed with coal came crashing down on ten workers stationed below. While four were tragically killed, one worker was critically injured and has been hospitalised. The remaining five laborers managed to escape unharmed. A police rescue team was dispatched to the scene, and a subsequent investigation has been launched.
