Typhoon Yagi has left a devastating impact on northern Vietnam, claiming the lives of at least 14 individuals and injuring 176 others.
State media reported that the storm, one of the most powerful to hit the region in the past decade, caused extensive damage, leaving over 3 million people without electricity and ravaging 116,192 hectares of agricultural land.
Hundreds of flights were grounded, and four airports were closed. The typhoon, which struck with wind speeds up to 149 km/hr, began weakening early Sunday morning, though officials warned of continuing heavy rain and potential floods.
Emergency crews, including municipal workers, the army, and police, were deployed in Hanoi to manage the aftermath, which included clearing debris and assessing structural damages. The storm, which had already caused significant casualties in the Philippines and China, highlights the increasing intensity of cyclones attributed to climate change, according to experts.
