The Maharashtra government has granted toll and road tax exemptions for vehicles on Konkan routes from September 5 to 19, aligning with the Ganesh festival that commences Saturday.
The Public Works Department (PWD) released an official notification on Wednesday to confirm the exemption.
This waiver is exclusive to Konkan-bound vehicles traveling on specific national and state highways. A pass, obtainable from RTO officials and traffic police, is required to benefit from the exemption. The pass is valid for return journeys as well.
Thousands travel from Mumbai and nearby areas to the Konkan region for Ganesh Chaturthi annually. To support this, many private and state-run buses, arranged by politicians and organizations, will also facilitate commuters.
The anticipated spike in traffic has led to this decision, aimed at easing congestion and ensuring smooth traffic flow during the festival.
