N Aswini, a scientist at the ICAR - National Institute of Biotic Stress Management's School of Crop Resistance System Research in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, died along with her father, N Motilal, when their car was swept away by an overflowing stream in Maripeda mandal in Mahabubabad district on early Sunday. The bodies were recovered by police after a thorough search operation.

They were on their way to Hyderabad to catch a flight to Raipur. The heavy rains in Telangana resulted in an estimated Rs 5,000 crore in damages, prompting the state government to seek Rs 2,000 crore in immediate assistance from the Centre.
