The Delhi Traffic Police is set to bolster its traffic rule enforcement by procuring over 300 new cameras for red light violation detection (RLVD) and over speed violation detection (OSVD) across the capital, officials announced on Sunday.
According to a senior police officer, 203 RLVD cameras will be placed at 57 intersections, while 125 OSVD cameras will be deployed at 76 different locations. This initiative, part of the second phase of the procurement process, is estimated to cost around Rs 95 crore.
The deployment aims to curb red light jumping in interior areas and overspeeding in less crowded outskirts and flyovers. This systematic approach intends to further monitor vehicular speed and foster safer road conditions, amidst an overall 4% rise in road accident fatalities this year compared to last.
