Shanghai Museum's summer exhibition, 'The Secrets of Saqqara', has captivated visitors with its ancient Egyptian relics, highlighting cat statues and feline imagery. Unique to this exhibition is 'Meow Night', a Saturday night event where up to 200 visitors can bring their cats to explore the museum.

Inspired by the ancient Egyptians' worship of Bastet, the cat goddess of protection, the museum allows cats to interact with parts of the exhibition. Shanghai Museum Deputy Director Li Feng noted that the idea was inspired by the discovery of a cat temple in Saqqara, filled with cat mummies and statues, giving birth to 'Meow Night'.

Running from July 19 until August 17, 2025, 'Top of the Pyramids: Ancient Egyptian Civilization Exhibition' has seen high demand for 'Meow Night' tickets, which sell out every time. Ensuring a safe experience, cats are checked for vaccinations and stress, with veterinarians onsite. Visitor Qiu Jiakai, attending with her cat An Mao, highlighted the special connection between modern pet cats and their ancient Egyptian ancestors.
