Science News Roundup: SpaceX Launch Paused, Falcon 9 Grounded, Antarctic Concerns
SpaceX pauses its Falcon 9 launch of Polaris Dawn due to weather issues, and another Falcon 9 is grounded due to a failed landing. In Chile, scientists question if Antarctica has reached a critical point of climate change. These were among the highlights of recent science news briefs.
SpaceX has paused the Falcon 9 launch of Polaris Dawn, initially scheduled for early Wednesday, citing unfavorable weather forecasts in splashdown areas off the coast of Florida.
In another setback for SpaceX, the Federal Aviation Administration announced the grounding of the Falcon 9 rocket after a failed landing attempt during a Starlink mission. The rocket successfully launched satellites but toppled into the ocean after a fiery touchdown.
Meanwhile, at the 11th Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research conference in Chile, over 1,500 experts discussed the accelerating changes in Antarctica, raising concerns about reaching a point of no return.
