Senior Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday called on Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav to halt a proposed oil and gas exploration project in Assam's eco-sensitive Hollongapar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary.
Gogoi, representing Jorhat, stressed the unique and irreplaceable ecosystem of the sanctuary, emphasizing the grave implications such as deforestation and pollution the project may cause.
In a letter to Yadav, Gogoi expressed deep concern, urging the rejection of forest clearance recommendations that endanger the sanctuary and its inhabitants, including the endangered Hoolock Gibbon, amidst the potential economic benefits.
Gogoi implored Yadav to seek alternative solutions that safeguard this vital wildlife sanctuary.
