Heavy rains have pounded parts of Gujarat, India, flooding cities, severing utility links, and displacing thousands of residents. As of Thursday, at least 28 people have died, with authorities warning of further deluge.

The army has deployed rescue teams as residents wade through waist-deep waters. Prabhu Ram Soni, a resident of Jamnagar, described the dire conditions of living without electricity with his young daughter and elderly mother who needs oxygen support.

Since Sunday, the death toll from rain-related incidents has reached 28, and over 18,000 people have been evacuated. Heavy rains persist in Jamnagar, which houses the world's largest oil refinery complex, owned by Reliance. Neighboring Vadinar's refineries, operated by Nayara Energy, remain functional, according to District Collector B K Pandya.

The weather office forecasts extreme rainfall in districts like Bharuch, Kutch, and Saurashtra. The atmospheric depression responsible for the downpours has also impacted southern Pakistan, including Karachi, with further warnings issued for flash floods in recovering regions.
