The Odisha government has issued orders to demolish 191 illegal apartments and buildings in Bhubaneswar, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra announced in the assembly on Tuesday.

Responding to a query from BJD legislator Ranendra Pratap Swain, Mohapatra revealed that 491 cases have been registered against allegedly illegal constructions in the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) area. Out of these, demolition orders have been given in 191 cases, while 63 cases have been dropped and 237 remain under trial, he explained.

In a similar vein, 1,444 cases of illegal construction have surfaced in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area. Of these, 451 cases have been resolved, and 993 are still under trial, Mohapatra added.
