The Centre has set its sights on infrastructure development in Meghalaya, acknowledging its strategic importance in India's northeastern region, Union Minister Raj Bhushan Choudhary revealed on Friday.

As part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the Centre aims to enhance road connectivity, bolster rail and air infrastructure, and upgrade digital networks in the state. 'This will not only open up new avenues for trade and commerce but also ensure that the benefits of development reach the remotest corners of the state,' Choudhary stated.

Emphasizing the need for sustainable practices, Choudhary noted the government's support for eco-friendly initiatives such as the National Green Mission and the Climate Resilient Agriculture Program to conserve Meghalaya's rich natural resources. Additionally, efforts to boost tourism include the Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD schemes, aimed at developing tourism circuits and improving infrastructure at tourist sites. 'Our goal is to create sustainable tourism models that generate employment, uplift local communities, and preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the state,' he added.

Addressing concerns about irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission in Garo Hills, Choudhary assured that any reported issues would lead to an inquiry committee.
