Two additional individuals succumbed to rain-related incidents in Tripura on Friday, despite an overall improvement in the flood situation, stated a senior official.

The death toll has now reached 24 since Monday due to floods and landslides. Disaster Management Secretary Brijesh Pandey reported better weather conditions in the past 24 hours, but the Gomati river remains above the danger level in Sonamura, Sepahijala district.

The disaster has extensively damaged roads, power infrastructure, agriculture, properties, and livestock, estimated at around Rs 5,000 crore. Pandey reported that 1,28,000 people have sought refuge in 558 relief camps, and food packets are being air-dropped to unreachable areas in Gomati district. Chief Minister Manik Saha conducted an aerial survey of the affected regions to assess the damage and inspected relief camps.

Two people are still missing, and the weather office predicts heavy rainfall on Saturday. The government is on high alert to manage any further emergencies, Pandey added. PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte noted severe road damage, including significant cracks on NH-8, with restoration expected within 48 hours. Medical officials have been put on alert due to potential water-borne diseases.
