Three individuals lost their lives and ten others sustained injuries when a wall of a timber factory in Jodhpur collapsed onto adjoining makeshift huts following severe rainfall on Monday, police reported.
Jodhpur experienced multiple wall collapses throughout the day as heavy rain inundated low-lying areas, severely disrupting daily life. The victims were labourers working in various factories.
According to a police officer, the foundation of the wall was compromised due to sand erosion from heavy rains, leading to the collapse. Nandu, Sunita, and Manju, all labourers, died in the early morning incident. Treatment for the injured is ongoing at AIIMS, Jodhpur.
The city, unprepared for the heavy rainfall, recorded 50 mm of rain, causing widespread flooding in low-lying areas. Rainwater entered many homes, compelling the administration to deploy mud pumps for drainage.
Additional incidents included the collapse of a school wall, a house in Cherai village, and the deaths of 30 to 40 goats in Singhasni village. Flood-like conditions are reported in Pali and Sojat, with Sojat receiving 261 mm of rain, leading to submerged roads and water flowing over the Bandi River causeway.
