Tragic Landslides in Wayanad: Death Toll Rises to 222

The death toll from last week's devastating landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district has reached 222, state government officials announced on Monday.
According to figures released by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the victims include 97 men, 88 women, and 37 children. Out of the 222 deceased, 172 bodies have been identified by relatives.
Rescue teams have so far recovered 180 body parts, with post-mortem examinations completed on 161 of them. Additionally, 91 individuals remain hospitalized across Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts, while 256 people have been discharged.
In a related development, an 18-member group stranded near a forest waterfall has confirmed their safety. A group member reported discovering a man's body Sunday evening, causing a delay in their movement until the Thunderbolt team from the Kerala Police was to arrive.
