The disaster prompted a surge in frantic calls for help, which were broadcast on television, showing the desperation of those affected.
One such call featured a woman from Chooralmala town pleading for assistance, mentioning a family member named Nausheen trapped in the marsh and debris. Another local described the ground still trembling and raised alarms about numerous individuals trapped under mud in other areas like Mundakkai.
Tragically, the landslides have claimed over 20 lives, with several villages including Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha cut off due to damaged infrastructure. Authorities are working tirelessly to rescue those in need and restore connectivity to these isolated regions.
