Five individuals, including two children, were tragically killed in landslides that struck Kerala's hilly Wayanad district on Tuesday, according to local authorities.
Among the deceased, four individuals, including a child, perished in Chooralmala town. A one-year-old child from a Nepali family died in Thondernad village, Wayanad district officials confirmed. The landslides severed connections in Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha villages, making them isolated.
In a video message, UDF MLA T Siddique mentioned that district authorities are planning to airlift residents from Mundakkai. ''We lack complete details about those missing or dead in the landslides. Many areas are inaccessible. NDRF personnel are making efforts to reach these places,'' he stated.
Simultaneously, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced via Facebook that two Air Force helicopters would soon depart from Sulur to aid in search-and-rescue efforts. District authorities reported that several families were evacuated to various camps or the homes of relatives following the landslides.
