Twenty-four public works department engineers are under scrutiny for alleged violations and irregularities in the construction of government school classrooms in Delhi, according to the vigilance directorate. The engineers have been given 14 days to respond to the show cause notices issued on July 26.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) highlighted that the Delhi government's vigilance department is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter. AAP stressed its commitment to quality education and infrastructure and stated that strict action would be taken if any wrongdoing is confirmed.
The public works department reported in 2016 that various factors, including building bylaws and space constraints, prevented the construction of 119 out of the planned classrooms. The vigilance notices claim that poor planning and inflated costs without proper approvals led to a significant increase in construction expenses. Complaints of irregularities have also been corroborated by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
