A 27-year-old man, Suraj Solanki, sustained injuries early Sunday morning when the ceiling plaster in his room collapsed in Thane's Kopri area, as reported by a civic official.
The accident happened at approximately 4:05 am in a flat within a 50-year-old, four-storey building, classified as 'C-1'—indicative of the most dangerous, requiring evacuation and demolition—according to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation's regional disaster management cell.
Solanki is currently hospitalised. The building's columns show significant cracks, rendering the structure highly unstable. Fire brigade and RDMC personnel have executed relief operations. Two other room occupants have been moved to safety and the area around the building has been sealed off as a precaution.
Weeks before this incident, another room in the same building experienced a similar ceiling plaster collapse, as per another official.
