Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is strengthening its role in global and regional disaster risk reduction (DRR). A key initiative in this effort is the establishment of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), aimed at enhancing infrastructure resilience worldwide.
In a recent development, Shri Rajendra Singh, Member and Head of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), assumed the Chair of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) for the year 2024-25. The handover took place in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, 25th July 2024. ADPC is an autonomous international organization focused on disaster risk reduction and climate resilience across Asia and the Pacific region. India, along with eight neighboring countries—Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand—is a founding member of ADPC.
Additionally, India chaired the 5th Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting of ADPC, also held on 25th July 2024 in Bangkok. This leadership role underscores India's commitment to advancing disaster preparedness and resilience in the region.
