Chandigarh Halts Godrej Properties' Project Over Environmental Violations

The government of the Union Territory of Chandigarh has revoked the building plans and occupancy certificate of Godrej Properties' commercial project in the city.

According to a regulatory filing, Godrej Properties stated that the Office of the Estate Officer, UT, Chandigarh issued an order on July 24, 2024, received by the company on July 25, revoking the approved building plans and occupancy certificate dated June 09, 2015, for its commercial building Godrej Eternia in Chandigarh. The order cites alleged violations of environmental clearance conditions.

Godrej Properties announced its intention to challenge this order, claiming the decision was based on a wrong premise and a misunderstanding of facts. The company is currently reviewing the order and plans to contest the decision in the appropriate legal forum.

The revocation relates to alleged violations concerning the requirement to obtain permission from the Standing Committee of the National Board for Wildlife. Godrej Properties, part of the Godrej Industries Group, is a leading real estate developer in India.
