At least 10 shops were gutted in a fire in the Uri area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said on Tuesday.
The fire, which broke out on Monday night, was caused by an electrical short circuit in Boniyar market in the north Kashmir district.
Several shops were engulfed by the blaze, resulting in the complete destruction of 10 of them. The fire was brought under control by local residents with the help of police and army personnel, later joined by the Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Local residents have called for the establishment of a dedicated fire and emergency services unit in the area to ensure immediate response to similar situations in the future.
