Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday reviewed the work at the under-construction Rs 1,400-crore irrigation project in Ahmedabad district.
According to a release from the Chief Minister's Office, Patel inspected the canal source near Goraj and Hansalpur villages, assessing phase 1, valued at Rs 377.65 crore. This phase is intended to enhance irrigation in the Nalkantha region.
Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited's chairman, K Kailashnathan, managing director Mukesh Puri, and director Parthiv Vyas were among the senior officers present. Patel underscored the need for high-quality, rapid progress in the construction.
The project aims to improve irrigation in the Narmada and Fatewadi canal areas, potentially benefiting 39 villages in Sanand, Viramgam, and Bavla talukas, covering roughly 35,000 hectares.
Phase 1 is expected to be completed by August 2025 and will irrigate approximately 12,000 hectares. Additionally, 65% of the work on the first phase is already done. The second phase, estimated at Rs 1,027 crore, is slated to start by the end of the year.
