Himachal Pradesh will embark on its first road construction project using Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology in the Ghumarwin subdivision, as announced by Rajesh Dharmani, a state minister, on Thursday.

The 7-kilometer Gahar-Naswal road will be built at a cost of Rs 5.50 crore, benefiting 5,000 local residents. Officials highlight that FDR technology will reduce construction costs by nearly 80%.

Constructed roads using this technique are more durable and vehicle-friendly. Technical Education Minister Dharmani stated that 113 roads in the initial phase will employ FDR technology.

FDR is a pavement rehabilitation approach combining the full flexible pavement section and a part of the underlying materials into a stabilized base. It reuses deteriorated asphalt pavement materials with added cement to form a new, robust base.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had directed the Public Works Department last October to implement FDR technology for constructing 666 km of roads statewide under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
