Three individuals were killed, and four others are feared dead after a massive landslide near Shirur village in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district, officials reported on Tuesday.
Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda stated that seven people, including four family members, were likely killed when the landslide struck National Highway 66. Rescue operations are being carried out by local police, National Disaster Response Force personnel, and other agencies amid continuous rainfall.
Vehicular traffic on the road has been suspended following the tragedy. The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased. Discussions with National Highway Authority officials are imminent to address the apparent steep slope issue that may have contributed to the accident.
