Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday took part in a record-setting tree plantation drive in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, aimed at planting 11 lakh saplings in a single day. Shah credited the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a fitting response to climate change challenges.
The campaign, launched on June 5 to commemorate World Environment Day, targets planting 140 crore trees across India, with 5.5 crore specifically in Madhya Pradesh. Shah highlighted the significant environmental issues, including the depletion of the ozone layer due to increased carbon dioxide and monoxide levels, which have led to rising temperatures and climate change.
Indore, famed as India's cleanest city per the Swachh Survekshan rankings, will contribute by planting 51 lakh saplings. Shah participated in the drive at the BSF campus in Revati Range, emphasizing the Modi government's prioritization of environmental protection through public awareness and tree plantation initiatives.
