In the early hours of Friday, a massive fire erupted at a vest manufacturing unit and warehouse located in Dumdum's Nagerbazar area, authorities disclosed.
No injuries were reported from the blaze, which started around 3 am on Jessore Road, according to police sources.
Thirty fire tenders battled for over 10 hours to extinguish the flames, suspected to have originated from an adjacent ice-cream factory and godown, confirmed a senior police official. 'The cause of the fire remains undetermined. It gained intensity due to the presence of combustible materials in the godown and the manufacturing unit,' the officer stated to PTI.
The densely packed area, home to numerous warehouses and small manufacturing units, posed significant challenges to fire-fighting crews, the official added.
A team of forensic experts is expected to visit the site soon to collect samples, he noted.
West Bengal Fire Minister Sujit Bose oversaw the firefighting efforts.
