A breach in the Munak Canal, Delhi's main water source for the Dwarka treatment plant, has spurred urgent actions from the city's authorities. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has urged the chief secretary to liaise with ministers to expedite repairs to the canal, emphasizing the need for lining unlined segments to prevent future breaches.
The Aam Aadmi Party reacted strongly to Saxena's statement, accusing him of often providing misleading information in his communications. The party highlighted past instances of alleged factual inaccuracies in the LG's messages, adding tension to the current crisis.
Meanwhile, Saxena instructed the Delhi Jal Board's CEO to coordinate with Haryana officials for prompt restoration. He also called for the immediate involvement of the National Disaster Response Force to aid affected residents and directed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to deploy pumps and additional boats. Various departments have been mobilized to provide relief, rehabilitation, and medical aid to the impacted areas.
The recent breach disrupted water supply to several areas and inundated the JJ Cluster in Bawana, affecting thousands of households. The incident has highlighted the critical need for proper maintenance of the canal, as its failure led to widespread flooding and displacement in the locality.
